System Components

Although the use of JOES is included with your franchise, you will need to purchase some hardware and software.

1. 3 - 5 Windows computers with monitors that are at least 20” wide. You can buy as many as you would like but at least 3 are recommended.
2. Two black and white laser printers. One for driver tickets and one for reports and another printing from the computer.
3. Two receipt printers. One for credit card slips and one that prints the kitchen tickets.
4. A fingerprint reader for each machine and you may want a spare one for home.
5. At least two swipe readers for processing credit cards.
6. Optional credit card terminal to accept Apple Pay and other NFC payment methods.
7. There is a $1000 set-up fee.

1. Normal paper for the Report/Office printer.
2. Paper that has been cut in half for the Driver printer. Most stores that sell printer paper will cut some of the reams in half for a small additional charge.
3. Roll paper for your receipt printers.
4. Replacement toner cartridges for the laser printers
5. Ink ribbons if you have an impact receipt printer.

1. Google Chrome must be installed on every computer.
2. Digital Persona must be installed for the fingerprint readers to work.
3. One copy of PrintNode to be installed on your “print computer.” This software retrieves the print jobs from the web and sends them to the correct printer.
4. You will need an office suite on at least one machine. Open Office is a free program that is adequate for this purpose.

Often there are notifications for windows updates in the System Tray on the lower right near the date. When you see a Windows update notification always run it.

Sometimes the Windows update will run automatically and when you look at the screen you will see an attempt by Microsoft will be made to change settings just click on the buttons that say Skip to bring Windows back up.

Download and install Google Chrome browser. Use this link to download the Digital Persona software.Digital Persona Then run the Setup program in the folder where you saved it.

If using Windows 11 and using a Bio-Key SideSwipe or SideTouch reader on a notebook computer, you will need to install drivers for those readers, Sidetouch Sideswipe. After you save the appropriate folder to your computer go to the Windows Device Manager. Click on the device in Biometric Devices and right click on the device and select Update driver. Then navigate My Computer to the appropriate folder you just downloaded for the device.

Users can click on the desktop icon to open another instance of Chrome rather than clicking the icon on the taskbar to view the instance that is already open. Do not open a second instance of Chrome. Having more than one open will cause errors. This is how the taskbar icon looks when there is only one instance of Chrome open.

This is how it looks with more than one instance open in Windows 10. Note the blue line under the icon now has 2 sections.

Clicking once on the link will show how many instances are open. Note that when you hover over the icon in the task bar there is a vertical bar on the right in the icon to indicate there are more than one instance open. There should only be one.

Brewers default to storing credit card numbers. Please turn off that option on all browsers.

If using Chrome, click the 3 vertical dots at the top right of the browser, click Settings> Autofill and passwords> Payment methods.

Then turn off “Save and fill payment methods.” Also delete any saved cards that were inadvertently stored.

On the first Sunday in November daylight savings time ends. On this day the next minute after 2:59 AM daylight savings time is 2:00 AM standard time. There are two 2 AM to 2:59 AM hours on that day.

Orders that are entered from 12:00 AM EDT until 3:00 AM EST when created will appear to be scheduled orders after a time when the store is closed. The scheduled times are false. Although the order appears to be scheduled for a time after the store is closed it is a valid ASAP order. It should be prepared and presented as soon as possible. There are 2 clues that will prove the scheduled times are false.

1. Orders cannot be scheduled for any time the store is closed.
2. Online orders can only be Scheduled on the quarter hour. If the scheduled minute is not :00, :15, :30, nor :45; it is not a scheduled order.

Any Windows computer can be used. If a new computer is purchased it merely needs to add a Google Chrome browser and be set up to use the fingerprint readers. Call MrJims.Pizza support if you need help.

We use ethernet cable connected laser printers for Driver tickets and reports. We use Star Micronics printers for Kitchen tickets and Credit Card receipts. The print jobs are created on the server and then sent by PrintNode to the store's Print Computer. When purchasing a new printer, the PrintNode printer ID must be stored in the server database for that printer.

The receipt printers are set to a static IP address on the local area network with the default gateway IP address that the router establishes for that store. If the router is ever changed the printers must be manually set to a new static IP address with the new local area network default gateway IP address established by the new router.
