The internet port must be connected to the switch or router to provide an internet connection to the phone. The other port is for another cable that can be connected to another device. The phones have a built-in switch so that, if powered up, they can pass the internet connection on to another device. This is called a daisy chain. Sometimes it is necessary to connect devices to the internet through the phone. This is not recommended because if the phone loses power or is broken the next device loses its internet connection. Also, the older phones limit the PC connection to 100 Mbit/s and many modern Internet Service Providers offer faster speeds. Computers should not be connected through the internal phone switch.
